Will an employer hire someone who gets a Social Security Disability check?

social security disability

I’ve worked all my life and have good job skills and a good education but my health has really deteriorated. I want to go back to work in my homestate. Would I be discriminated against for having a Social Security Disability Check coming in? I called the Social Security about this and they said I could make up to $600 and still draw SS.

Sure. As long as you could handle the job.

I don’t know about your country (”state” instead of province) but over here employers are not supposed to discriminate against people with disabilities, and it’s not their business where you get other money I don’t think unless it’s illegal, so they should hire you if you are the best candidate regardless of whether or not you get a Social Security Disability Check or not.

I think it depends on your disability, eg: spinal, as to what job you are going for. If you are a capable person and can do the job there should not be a reason why you can’t work, and also why an employer won’t employ you. Be honest with the prospective employer about your disability and be upfront with the Social Security people. I am sure if you choose your employer wisely you will come out of this tops. Also you could work part time thereby still getting your pension cheque and thereby not getting too much of a cut in money. Also by the sounds of it you would be a valuable asset to any employer.
