what is the purpose of the social security disability benefit for a child under age of 18 parents claim?

i received a disability award. my daughter is going to receive an amount of half of what i was given in addition to my award. why?

    You have to have money to support your child until she is of legal age.

    To help support your child, since your earnings are only a percentage of what they were. Your SSI benefit will be a specific percentage of your previous salary. And it’s not all that high. So you get a little more for each child. It’s to cover food, educational materials, clothing, recreation, and …..I forget, but one last category. Also, how much was saved for her future education.

    Also, be sure to keep track, at least the first year, of what you spend for your daughter. In about a year, you will be asked to explain it to SSI. You won’t have to provide receipts or any other proof, just give a lump sum for each category. But it may be helpful for you to keep receipts for yourself, or keep track in a notebook or something. The first time you get the paperwork for this, it can be overwhelming if you didn’t know you’d have to do that. Hard to backtrack like that! They ask every few years.
