Should My Uncle Who Is On Social Security Disability Be Going To Vegas?
He has a mental disorder, but nothing physical. I think it’s called bi-polar.
Why can he goto Vegas and have a good time while the rest of the U.S. is supporting him.
He says he has been working part time, saved up some money and so he feels he has earned it.
Is he taking advantage of the system?

Just because your uncle has a disability and is receiving S.S. which he has worked for doesn’t mean he cannot have a life.
2 thank you
Having a mental illness is horrific. You don’t know the hell it entails. Why so many questions about people having benefit when you feel the shouldn’t? He is more than entitled to go on holiday. More so if he has mental health problems. Untill you’ve suffered from one I would not see the grass so green on that side.

A disability does not mean never leaving the house or having a life. I don’t think gambling is a good application of his money, but he will have to deal with that when he’s hungry at the end of the month.

Being bi-polar does not exclude you from living life it does hold you back in being able to work for long periods of a time. Bi-polar people have severe highs and lows when not on medications. If he is on his meds then he is able to do pretty much anything without flipping out.

I blame your parents for this.
Holy cow. Who has been filling your head with such nonsense?
Of course your uncle can go where he pleases and spend his money (whether from SSDI or other sources) as he pleases.
Are you aware that SSDI is a benefit that your uncle paid for while he was working? It is a benefit paid to American taxpayers who have worked a given number of quarters before becoming disabled. In otherwords, he PAID for his benefit, as do you. Hopefully, you will never have to use your benefit. Unfortunately for your uncle, he had to use his.

I don’t think because he has a mental illness that he doesn’t desrve to go out and do something with himself. Support him emotionally!
