SERIOUSLY can anyone LIVE on social security disability?

social security disability

And not have to live in the projects. Not to put down the projects, I’m sure there are alot of wonderful people that live in that part of a city. Housing programs are implemented to help people with low income get into a house. RIGHT? WRONG!!! I don’t qualify, income too low. So their saying that I’m too poor to get help that is designed to help people with low incomes (social security disabitiy). This is absolutly rediculous. And save the “well at least you have that”,crap. I’d like to see a government offical live on it. HA!!!!!

You need to move to a place that houses cost less. It is tough on such a limited income, but it can be done.

Social Security disability benefits are not enough for a decent living. People must still work to contribute to the economy of the state instead of just receiving benefits from it.

I’m a tax payer. deal with it. You get more than I do.

If you’re too poor to be allowed into housing projects, how did you afford a computer and internet access?

Yes they can. And i do understand that this may be difficult. You may have to move to a location w/ lower rents.

Yes….. but it would be very dificult and they would have to be very thrifty. I wouldn’t advise that to be a person’s sole income but people live on less. I suppose that they would need some type of subsidized housing but not necessarily the “Projects…so to speak.

People survive on what they have b/c that’s their only choice. Our gov’t makes us work all of our lives, just to leave us poor and desperate at the end.

I can’t say it enough…..401K people!!! Save your money

I’ve worked my entire life. I just went out on disability I get almost $1700.00 /month. can anyone find housing, utilities, etc for that? Lots of people are worse off than me.

    It’s rough.
That’s why Bush wanted to privatize part of Social Security.
It would have really helped all working people. That’s why the Democrats sabotaged it. “It would have given working people too much freedom.” (And TOO much money.)

Man I am same boat, I just take it one day at a time, one moment at a time. I can say all of what I dont have, or I can focus on what I do have. I have a chance to contribute my time to help others.I have a chance to fix PCs or help someone learn about simple backup and how to stuff. It doesnt pay anything, but I get a sence of accomplishment when I assist another human being.
Yes I paid taxes, I still do, so dont give me that garbage, that is rude and very uneeded. I served my Country in a division of the Goverment. So dont give me any garbage there either.
I can be nice as I wanna be, I can choose to be happy and content with what I am and what I have, or I can choose to feel sorry for myself. I choose to be happy. And I am.

Social security benefits are meant to fulfill your needs and not your wants. If the benefits you are earning do not satisfy your lifestyle, then there are plenty of ways to earn money if you’re disabled. My father is disabled and learned traits that he can do over the computer that allows him to live at his preferred lifestyle.

Can be done. If you work a part time job doing some non labor intensive work. Like a greeter at Walmart or something of the sort. There is an amount you can make every month that will not effect your benefits. The idea is you can not work at a “livable wage” and get benefits. You can still work minium wage part time and add that to the monthly SSD check.

You may still have to live in a low rent neighborhood though or get on section 8 where you find your own housing from a private landlord instead of living in the government owned projects.

I am assuming that you are drawling the social security from previous employment. If not and your are on the government funded Social Security you are lucky if you can make it. You could still try for section 8 though.

I would have to agree with you. I would like to see a government official live on what I get too. The saddest part is they really don’t care if you don’t have meds, a place to stay or food. They want us to starve to death so they don’t have to pay us anymore. We are just part of the population problem and they are hoping if they just bury their heads in the sand, we won’t see them either. Their compassion is nil, their humane talk is lies, and we are just a problem they created that they really do not want to deal with.

Lots of heartless people answering this question I see.I agree with you 100%.In my area,if you qualify for section 8,that is where they put you,in the “projects”.Most private landlords do not accept section 8 because they know once they do,they always have to take section 8 people and don’t have a say in who their renters will be.I receive SSD.After I pay my rent,I have $250.00 left a month to pay for everything else.It is easy for people who haven’t walked in our shoes to condemn and say “get a job”.I would love to get a job,I was a nurse for 20+ years before I was disabled.I have been disabled since birth, but still went to nursing school and worked until my disability became too severe.I miss working every day,but I am to the point where I can’t be up for more than a few hours before I have to rest.
People tend to think that we gets tons of money,or that “they” are paying for it.They need to get a life and walk in the shoes of a disabled person for just one week, and try to live on what you get and keep your utilities on and food in your stomach.

me and my girlfriend just bought a house, and yes we are on ssdi, anything is possible, it’s all about money management. prior to buying our house we had about 5000 in the bank. we certainly don’t live like royalty, but i have food every night, and a place to call home.
