Would my son qualify for Social Security Disability?

social security disability

My 18 year old son, a high school senior, is hearing impaired. Zero hearing in right ear and about 1/2 in the left ear. His condition will not improve and he could, over time, develop even less hearing in the left ear. Would this be serious enough to get disability or supplemental income from social security?
To clarify, and for those who wish to be meanies: My son does already go to high school, full days and works 30 hrs. per week at a fast food place. He pays his own car payment and insurance and we were only trying for the SSI (supplemental), so when he has the bouts that come with his ear issues (abnormally form inner ear sctructure and deafness), he might not have to go to work, attempt to stand, sometimes over boiling grease, when he is so dizzy and nauseated he can hardly stand and has a hard time hearing with the headset. So, for those who think he is trying for a free ride, we just wanted a little help for him as he is going into college and will eventually find a different employment where he can do ok with the illness and impairment.

Is rental income counted against my social security disability check?

social security disability

I have social security disability (SSD), not SSI, so I am allowed to have as much money in the bank as I want. I know I’m allowed to own a home, but am I allowed to own a duplex and rent out one side. Does rental income count as ‘earned income’ as in a job or ‘unearned income’ as in bank interest?

If this income is high enough, could I lose my disability? To take it one step further–could I buy another duplex, and still be ‘unearned income’ so as not to lose my benefits.

Please only thoughtful answers. Critisizm or telling me to ‘go get a job’ isn’t what I’m looking for. Thanks so much for your help.

I have a question for those on Social Security Disability?

social security disability

If your now getting social security disability are you going to lose a great deal of benefit help such as assistance with prescription drug fee and help with medicare monthly payment assistance because of the 3.3 % yearly increase?
I have a 9 year old at home and wife whom I need for daily assistance , I can’t be left alone . I will get an extra 61 dollars a month now but will have to now pay almost 98 dollars for medicare plus 78 for prescription part d plan and also now 68 dollars for my monthly oxygen fee. So I get 61.00 raise and lose 244.00 a month . It appears the 61.00 has put me over the limit for help .

Question About People On Social Security Disability For Mental Disorders?

social security disability

People that have depression, bipolar, schizophrenia can sometimes work with therapy and medications.
Some cannot and go on Social Security Disability.
Do you think they have a real reason for being on it such as more severe symptoms or do you have another opinion about it?
Even though most get out more than they pay into the system, in fairness they have paid something into the system in the past to be afforded this benefit.
I am just wondering if most feel like it is a necessary benefit.
