May my friend apply for Supplemental Security Income disability benefits and don’t apply for Social Security?

My friend would like to apply for Supplemental Security Income disability benefits but she doesn’t want apply for Social Security disability benefits to safe for future “rainy days”. Is that possible?

    Your friend would still being going to Social Security for that and would still have to meet the same disability requirements.

    The application for SSI is the same application for SSDI benefits. I have seen them separate them but your friend will have to make sure the SS office knows they are only applying for just one and which one.
