Have you been making any payments to this creditor in the recent past? Have they been in contact with you re: your obligation on a consistent basis? If the answer to either or both of these is yes than under the new laws they can in fact garnish your SSDI…You may/might want to try settling with them or at least try to make some type of arrangement to get the obligation off the books. Otheriwse yes they have a right to collect.
Of course if they’ve suddenly decided to contact you after 7 years and want their $$$ than I’d consult an attorney as the statute of limitations on collection may/might have expired. Good Luck…PEACE!
