My brother has applied for Social Security Disability. When he applied, they also applied for SSI. Will he get the SSI before he gets his Social Security Disabilty. We were wondering because it has been 3 1/2 months and he has not received anything from SSI. How does this work, can someone tell me for him?
Do you get your SSI first before you get Social Security Disability?

That depends on many factors including any income within your household and if you have any children. If you are single however you will get SSI money but you don’t see any of it until you have been approved. Disability can take up to 2 years to approve you. They pretty much automatically reject your claim the first 2 times. In fact my first rejection letter said I was denied because I had no long lasting disabilities. I later found it this was written 2 weeks before they got my paperwork from the doctor. Also beware of SSD lawyers. They do nothing for the money then charge you 30%. It’s a scam.
