Do Social Security disability (SSD) benefits qualify for the tax rebate?

social security disability

I cannot find any specific reference to SSD being included or excluded in the stimulus tax rebate. I know that the Social Security Supplemental (SSI) benefits are excluded.

Please provide your source of information. Thank you.

Yes, the only requirement is that you file a return, even if you do not pay taxes. Consult a tax specialist. The source gives more details in the second question asked so scroll down.

Yes. I believe there is an exception for people that are drawing Social Security disability or retirement checks. You must have at least $3000 in SS income to be eligible, AND you must file a 2007 tax return. You must file the tax return, even if you owe no tax, in order to receive the tax rebate.

Edit: You can hire a tax professional, but if SSD is your only income, the tax return is extremely simple. In years past, the IRS website has offered free e-filing thru various third party sites for those making less than $50,000 annually. I’ve used Turbo Tax online free for the last two years, and was extremely surprised at how simple it was to do it myself. Be advised that you will probably need to link to the site thru the IRS site to get the *free e-filing*.

    Here’s a sample return:

Social Security Disablity counts as qualifying income for the tax rebate.
The IRS website has a “Rebate Questions” link or here’s the IRS pamphlet for people who receive SS benefits:
