    I don’t think they take it per SE’ but probably suspend SSI payments for the amount of the Workman’s comp award

    “Social Security benefits for you and your family may be reduced if you also are eligible for workers’ compensation (including payments through the black lung program) or for disability benefits from certain federal, state or local government programs. You must tell us if:

    You apply for another type of disability benefit;
    You receive another disability benefit or a lump-sum settlement; or
    Your benefits change or stop. ”

    Living in KS is irrelevant to this–same law will apply throughout the US. You may want to contact your Social Security disability lawyer (most people used one to get benefits as they deny more than half of all claims at least the first go-round). He should be able to advise you.
