My BF has had some credit card companies for yrs trying to garnish his bank acct….He is recieving social security disability benefits…and wants to know if they can take any money from his acct….As he will be getting a back pay from Social security……thanks

    NO THEY CAN’T
    Only over paid benefits can be taken from SSDI. If he is getting his benefits via wire transfer to his bank account, the satements will be evidence that his income is from SSDI.

    Why not try to make a re-payment arrangement with them to relieve some of the stress it must be causing you? Most companies are understanding of an unforeseen change in circumstances, and will accept payments below the minimum payment as long as you are up-front and honest with them. They will work with you, it is to your advantage to do this as it will help your credit score and keep them from chasing after you and contacting all your family and friends, which they have the right to do. Many companies will often reduce the amount owing once you show a good-faith effort to clear this up.
