Can an individual receive VA disability, social security, and work as well?
Is an individual who is 25 years old, 70% service connected disabled (Operation Iraqi Freedom) from the Veteran’s Affairs Office eligible to also apply and receive Social Security, and if so is the individual allowed to work as well? Or can he not work while accepting the Social Security?

SS office would be able to answer this correctly, some people I have known on SS were able to work but it affected their check amount. The Vet Affairs office would be the only answer I would accept on whether or not working would affect you disability check. Good Luck

If you are getting Social Security I think you can’t make over 12,000 a year. My mom just started receiving hers and I think that was part of the guideline.
I think you can receive disablitily as well however it may play into how much you will be allowed to make working.
I would contact your local Social Security office or VA…

They told my dad, who is 100% disabled, that he couldn’t work or he would lose it, and I was a teenager at the time and I couldn’t work either because it would come back out of the money he got for us

It all just depends. What’s your disability? A lot of times, even if a person is considered “disabled” by the VA, they are not necessarily disabled in the eyes of the SSA.
There are two types of programs through SSA, one is SSDI for persons with enough work credits. Your payment is based on your work history and you can make up to a certain amount per month and still receive your full amount.
The second program is SSI and is a welfare based program. This is for people who don’t have enough work credits for SSDI. The max payment is 623 dollars a month and goes down for every dollar you make.
Here’s a link to the “bluebook”, this is what SSA uses to determine who is disabled and who is not.
If you don’t have a condition that EXACTLY meets one of these listings, you have to prove how your condition prevents you from working and taking care of yourself.
IF you have enough credits for SSDI, it is possible to receive SSDI, VA and work a small amount (less than 8100 dollars a year). Good luck!

I know you can get VA and work. I do and I am 40% disabled.
